Moments, Movement, and Mastery: A Letter to My Old Self

Dive into the darkness to find the light, that’s really what this letter to my old self is about.

Working with countless woman, I know we can easily get caught up in the darkness that looks like a never ending, hopeless tunnel with no way out. And this becomes our constant reality. But I’m here to tell you to keep walking through the darkness and you will find light at the end. That committee inside your head that nags and berates eventually pipes down to make room for the lioness that roars and will catapult you into movement. That darkness you feel is just a moment.

Now is the time to face the darkness and create movement to master your life! YOUR LIFE! ALL OF YOU!

Dear old self,

I can see that you’re older but not wiser. I see the naysaying committee that lives up in that smart brain of yours, trapping you in old experiences, shitty thoughts, and biased beliefs. It keeps you unchanged. This isn’t you. You’re waiting and don’t know what you’re waiting for. You don’t wallow, yet here you are. Buck up! Make the decision to stop the voices in your head from robbing you of your joy and stop thinking; worrying; waiting; perfecting; looking over your shoulder; wondering; doubting; fearing; hurting; looking for the easy way out; struggling; grasping; confusing; scratching; grumbling; judging; overnight successing everything; shoulding yourself; numbing; bitching; nitpicking; finger pointing; small stepping; trying and not doing; being non-committal; giving away your time, energy and power; looking for validation outside of yourself; looking for examples to validate your victimized story; and grinding away at yourself. Stop it! Stop landfilling your head. Stop wanting to change yourself. Start becoming who you are meant to be: great!

She will show up, eventually, after spending years in that dark tunnel. You'll stop looking at ways to change herself every new year. You'll stop making everyone’s goals and beliefs your own: marry by a certain age, kids by another age, be a tea drinker, lift light weights because you’re a girl, eat emotionally because you’re a girl and that’s what we do, don’t fart in public, and don’t speak your mind so much. Just keep it all to yourself, be polite and agreeable, and for love… pick a safe and secure job because happiness is overrated.

You’ll finally grow a pair and stop listening to that committee in your head and do a bunch of small, seemingly insignificant, uncomfortable things that add up to massive change. You’re going to say NO more often to things that don’t add value and say YES to things that are exciting, yet scary and uncomfortable. You’re going to get up on stage in front of hundreds of people in a skimpy bikini to be judged by others when you use to be too modest to wear a V-neck shirts. You hid your body under as many clothes as possible but that is going to change. You’re going to say no to drinking as much and smoking pot. You’re going to grow the F^%$ up. You’re going to stop listening to the committee in your head and regularly do uncomfortable things. You’re going to decide that you're worthy! You are enough! And you always have been. You are the F^%$ing party! You stopped waiting and counted more on yourself.

It’s going to happen so don't wait. Make the change now!

Today, make the decision to do one thing that is uncomfortable and keep working on reinforcing the roaring lioness that lives in your head. It will soon overshadow the naysaying committee that wants to capture your life.

Today, act as if you do those things, feel those things, be those things. Create momentum. Create change. Take back your power. Own it!

Today, I want you to wake up and ask: what do I have to do today to tap into my unlimited potential and be the F^%$ing person I want to be?

Today, you become the master of your own life!

This is how I worked through the moments to create movement to carve out my path to mastery. It started with one uncomfortable decision. Guess what? It’s your turn?
