2016 MOTTO

I had wanted a tattoo for a while. It was never a question of getting one but a matter of what to get. Then one day I signed up for this online quiz to choose your motto and there it was; it just resonated with me: “I GOT THIS”. It was something that I said to my clients all the time, so much so that it became kind of my trademark phrase (so I was told!) But I guess it was one of those things you say without realizing how much you say it. So on my 34th birthday, my husband and I trekked out and I got my tattoo of my motto…my first ink!

The tattoo serves as a reminder to me that whenever I feel doubtful or down, that I have been here before and always pull through. I don’t need to look at it, in fact I often forget it is there. It is just part of me now.

So now I’m another year older, and here I am thinking about what to embrace this year. Not another tattoo (for now), but what resonates with me this year. I will always carry “I Got This” with me, but this year, in my 35th year, I embrace two mottos:

I am ready

I surrender

I am ready for what lies ahead this year. I embrace future challenges and opportunities and am ready to explore. I am ready means that no door is closed before first exploring its potential. That this year may present a different course than the one I have set out, or it may give me exactly what I have intended - a lot of newness and plenty of lofty goals. I am ready to hustle to make it happen. I am ready.

I surrender will be harder for me. I like control, and relinquishing that control is a struggle. Even harder than a 5:30 a.m. workout, I think! I surrender means letting my guard down from time to time to allow the I am ready to happen. I surrender means that sometimes I need to ask for help and let go of the “I am right!” I surrender allows the I am ready to flow.

Sometimes it just takes a couple of words to speak to you when you need them the most and to offer a fresh perspective. These words allow me to frame my options in way that resonates most with my inner-self – my core values and beliefs – to live in alignment with how I am inside and what I project onto the world.

2016: At 35 years of age, I am ready. I surrender to what lies ahead. I SO got this!

If you could choose one motto for this year, what would you choose?
